Mahatma Gandhi is recognized throughout the world as a man who was dedicated to doing good and standing for what he believed was right. Gandhi was able to study internationally in London, thus giving him an advantage in his learning (Strong and Davis, 710). When he returned to India, he used the knowledge he gained to help his people by performing acts of civil disobedience (ideas which he got at least partially from learning about Emerson and Thoreau) as he sought to help his people from British power in a peaceful way. Bringing Gandhi allows us to bring his message, as he declared, “My life is my message” (Strong and Davis 711). His message is that our learning and advances toward perfection should be used to help others. This idea is perhaps the most important, and thus this artifact is presented last as the climax. It is so crucial because if people in a society keep all their learning to themselves, no one benefits and society can turn stale and cold. The single most important factor in helping civilization and learning to thrive is actually using the learning to positively affect those around us. I want my society to have this concept as its base for its idea of learning.
