Semester 2
Learning can be described as many
different things and composed of many different steps and processes. However, I
have come to the conclusion that the root of all of this can be enveloped by
the following definition of learning: Learning
is expanding yourself in the joyful process of becoming perfect. The first
element of this definition is that learning is expanding, whether that be
expanding your knowledge, expanding your capability to do good, expanding you skills,
expanding your experience, expanding your thinking skills, expanding your
potential, etc. Learning is a broad term but can be better understood through
thinking about it in terms of expansion and growth. The first two artifacts
will further discuss this element. The second key aspect of this definition is
that you have to expand yourself. Personal use of agency is key; no one can make
you change, expand, or learn but yourself. The third and fourth artifacts deal
with this aspect. Third, this expansion and learning is a joyful process. It
happens over time and can be painful, but is rewarded with exciting,
meaningful, and moving moments. The fifth, sixth, and seventh artifact deal
with this idea of a joyful process. Finally, the end goal of this expansion is
perfection. Everything we learn helps us along the path to learning everything,
which means we have expanded and grown enough to become perfect. However, as we
are going through this process to become perfect, we need to help others along
the journey as well. The eighth and ninth artifacts will deal with this last
concept. In the end, as we continue to learn by expanding ourselves and helping
others, we will continue to have increasing opportunity to expand even further.

Semester 1
Learning is a complicated process and involves many different aspects. In addition, it is different for each individual. However, if I were starting a new civilization, I would define learning in this way: learning is the cycle of action, struggle and discovery that includes exposure to information, making connections, application, and eventually becoming different because of the context the information gives you for your attitudes, decisions, and beliefs. Action, struggle, and discovery are elements of the learning process and the other steps are the specific parts of the process. Each of these seven aspects of learning are important: action, struggle, discovery, exposure to information, connections, application, and becoming different. The point of all of it is to serve and help others. To illustrate these important aspects of learning to my new civilization, I would bring the following eight primary sources to explain the overall view of learning as a cycle, each of the seven aspects, and then a source explaining the whole point of the learning process—helping others and society in general. Once this civilization understands the important elements, steps, and purpose of learning, they will be able to thrive, learn, prosper, and grow.
